Erase erase
Apparently my fears of having gained weight were unfounded because as of this morning I have lost another 3 pounds. That's 10 pounds total. Hooray. The other good news that I forgot to post is that in the first week I was able to cut my insulin dose in half. I was taking 40 units twice a day. I am now taking 20 units twice a day and hoping to reduce that soon.

Rough road
My first weigh-in was last week and I had lost 7 lbs in 10 days. The past week has not been easy though. I am hungry. I am always hungry. My coach, Kristy, says I should not be hungry on this program. I am supposed to be drinking a LOT of water. But I am not thirsty. I drink a bit during the day but not the volumes and volumes I am supposed to be drinking. So I am trying to drink more water. Didn't do so well today with the water though. Anyway I am scared to death to weigh in tomorrow morning. I am really afraid that I will have gained weight instead of lost weight. The scale will tell, but I am not looking forward to it. I just don't want to fail at this. I so want to lose weight and be a different me. The me that I CAN be but am not, because of the limitations that my weight puts on me.

Day One
I survived! I made it through the entire day and did not kill anyone. Actually I began with the scrambled eggs for breakfast and they were really good. Wish I could say as much for the tomato soup. But I realized I am not doing this for the food or for a gourmet dining experience. I am doing this for me and to get myself to a healthier place. So today was very successful. I feel great.
Also spent some time tonight doing some advance preparation for my lead and green meals. I had purchased some meat and fish and broke the packages down to individual servings, bagged them and froze them. I now have about a month's worth of lean options ready to go.

Ready, Set, .....
Can't believe I am really going to do this. The food arrived today. My husband was looking it over and started laughing. He said, "This is supposed to last you a MONTH?" He thinks it will all be gone after the first day. What do I think? I think I may kill someone within the first week.

Launch date Aug 13
My food order is due to arrive on Thursday, Aug 12, so I can start on Friday, Aug 13. This will be a lucky Friday the 13th for me. I am getting excited about starting this program, losing weight, and becoming the me I want to be.

Preprogram
So here's my plan until the food arrives. I have lots of food in the house that I won't be eating for a long time because they're not on the approved list: pasta, fried things, potatoes, even fruit. I am daily cooking some of these items to get them out of the house. Had pasta and shrimp yesterday. Shrimp: OK, but pasta: NOT. Also had some hummus and crackers, and fruit salad, oh yeah, and yogurt. Anyway, just eating normally but ridding cupboards of no-no foods too.
In the beginning
How this all started: I recently reconnected with an old friend from Palmdale, Betty Ott. Betty posted on Facebook that she had lost 30 lbs in 9 weeks, was never hungry and loved the program she was on. Naturally I wanted to know what program she was talking about. So she referred me to her niece and coach, Kristy Medina. Kristy has lost an amazing 200 pounds on this program. So I talked to her and found out it is the Take Shape for Life Program using the Medifast foods. I researched it and took about 9 days to think about it. I decided I really needed to do this NOW and so I have placed my first order and plan to start when the food arrives at the end of next week.
I'm not ready to post my weight yet, but I gained most of it with my first pregnancy in 1983 and never got it off, just kept adding to it bit by bit. My sons have never seen me thin. But I remember what it was like. I remember the joy of shopping for cute clothes and feeling comfortable in anything I was wearing. At my present weight I am uncomfortable and tired all the time. I have no energy to do anything. I now have diabetes which is controlled with medication and insulin. My diabetes was out of control for a very long time. I just recently was able to get it under control and I think that is helping motivate me to lose weight now. I really would prefer not to have to give myself the insulin injections twice a day and if I lose all this excess weight I can cut back on or go off my medications..
I am also a new grandma. The light of my life, my granddaughter Evelyn, was born May 15, 2010. She is so adorable and I want to enjoy her as she gets older and is more active. I can do that much easier if I am much thinner. So whether the motivation is getting off my diabetes medications or enjoying my granddaughter, it all comes down to losing weight. I figured that if it worked for Betty & Kristy why couldn't it work for me?
I am beginning this journey with much trepidation and angst. I am deathly afraid of failing. I have failed so many times in the past. My will power sucks! I am discouraged very easily and usually lose interest in any program I am on after about 2 weeks. Why will this time be different? I don't know if it will or not and that is what scares me. But I have Kristy as my coach and know she will be there for me when the going gets tough. That is also why I created this blog. I am hoping to capture the highs and lows of my journey here. For now the posts will be private. No one knows about this blog except me. Hopefully I will have success quickly and be motivated to share this blog with family & friends.
